July-Aug 2009/NC & Scotland

August 30th, 2009 Posted in 2009, North Carolina, Scotland

July started by celebrated Shaun’s 15th birthday.  It is hard to believe that he now officially has the privilege of driving on Florida’s roads.   Wow, have the years passed quickly!

We had a pretty frenetic end to the summer with a family trip up to Asheville, North Carolina that centered around Shaun and Jay going to cross country running camp.   Lata Tatee came up with us, and we were joined there by Amy and Andy from Nashville.  Asheville is a bit of an anomaly in the South, as it is an old traditional southern town with a hippie-like San Francisco feel to it.   Rajjina drove up there for the week and Papi joined for the last 3 days.   We were able to visit the sprawling Vanderbilt Estate, Grove Park and Chimney Rock Park,  all breathtaking places set in the North Carolina mountains.  On our final day, we did some white river rafting, which was exciting for all of us.

At the end of August, Sareet went on his annual pilgrimage to the home of golf; this time,  he was able to play the Old Course at St. Andrews, Carnoustie, Kings Barn and North Berwick.   We also celebrated Clark’s 50th birthday in fine Scottish fashion including donning kilts (albeit towel versions), eating haggis and enjoying a great bagpipe performance.   The weather was uncharacteristically temperate.  In fact, one of our caddies at Carnoustie even said that the weather we had the day we played would be one of 3 or 4 days like that annually.    It was quite a treat, and we look forward to next year in Western Scotland.

Keep in Touch!
