February 2002/Yong Pyong

Happy New Year

The month started off with the end of soccer season for Jay and Shaun. Papi coached both their teams this year.  In Jay’s league, they did not keep any official standings, and so all the players got medals.  Lucky for us, since Jay’s team was a bit on the young and small side.  Shaun’s Red Raiders took the bronze medal and played extremely well through the season.  Papi is looking forward to coaching both boys on the same team next year.

February is also traditionally the time of Chinese New Year’s which follows a lunar calendar.  We have just entered the year of the horse, which incidentally is the character of our Chinese name.  We hope this year brings good luck and prosperity to all our family and friends.  We have also decided to upgrade our technology this month and have included a video greeting of the boys wishing you all a Happy New Year in Chinese. Hope you have no trouble downloading it.  If you do, it’s time for you to get a new computer anyway.

We spent the New Year’s holiday in Yong Pyong, Korea, skiing. Shaun and Jay skiied with Mom and Papi down virtually every slope in the resort. The skiing was quite nice, akin to that of a large East coast resort in the U.S.. Unfortunately, Rowan was too young to participate, but he should be passing us on the slopes this time next year. We finished off the week with some sightseeing at the restored Imperial Palace in Seoul. The boys ran into a film crew that was filming a traditional Korean soap opera.

We miss you all. Keep in touch,

The Majumdars

P.S. It’s great to live in a country where you can celebrate New Years twice a year.
