March-April 2008/Whistler, BC

April 30th, 2008 Posted in 2008, British Columbia (BC), Florida, Whistler

Over Spring Break, we enjoyed a bit of a Shanghai reunion.  We met our friends the Fischmann’s and the Kinlin’s at Whistler just north of Vancouver for a week long ski holiday.  For the kids, it was great to see their old friends again.   Whistler-Blackcomb was an amazing resort area with fantastic restaurants, world class skiing and snowboarding and a beautiful village for après-ski relaxation.   It is easy to see why this area has been selected to host the 2010 Winter Olympics.

This was finally the year that all the boys are bolder, faster, more accomplished skiers that Papi.  It is hard to admit that 8 year old Rowan is now passing Papi on the slopes with regularity.   Jay is our family boarder and became even more comfortable on the slopes this year on his board, as he handled all terrain and hung out with fellow boarders Miller, Foster and Sarge.   Shaun, Rowan and Brett remained dedicated skiers, although it appears we may lose Rowan to that boarder “dark side”  in a year or two.

Back home, Shaun was inducted for the second time into the National Junior Honor Society.   He had been inducted last year in Shanghai, but his record did not get transferred,  and Shaun seemed to enjoy not having to go to the regular Society meetings during the year and then earning it again at another school.   Somewhere in a NJHS office, there is a curious record of two Shaun Majumdars that have been inducted in consecutive years.

We also were visited by our friends the McDonalds, who had moved from Taiwan to Turkey and now back to Chicago.   It was another reunion, as former baseball and soccer teammates, Jay and Tommy got together and scrambled against their dads in golf and beat us.   Needless to say, they will not be getting strokes next time.

Keep in touch!
The Majumdars
